Riversong Performer
Carl Payne
During his high school years Carl played for weddings, summer fairs and local clubs. After ten years of playing guitar Carl began his professional career for seven years as lead guitarist in several pop musical groups. In 1992 Carl was introduced to Celtic music and the Irish folk harp and other Celtic instruments. He took a class on building dulcimers. With the combination of natural musical skills and carpentry abilities, his interest was to build and play a variety of his own built and personally crafted acoustic string instruments that included harp, guitar, psaltery, hammered and lap dulcimers. Since 1996 Carl has been successfully building and selling harps and his many masterfully-built beautiful acoustic instruments. In 2000 Carl teamed up with vocalist Judy Sutton and released the CD "Faithful Endeavors" . In 2003 he was joined by musician Sally Ceresko and released the recording of "Frosty Morning". A recent appearance as "Willow" with Eryca Nelson, another well known area master musician and her father, Bob Nelson of "23", had rave reviews. Carl Payne successfully performs at art fairs , area festivals and is a frequent performer at The Box Factory For The Arts in Saint Joseph, Michigan, for Riversong Music Society and for Berrien Artists Guild venues. He has made several live appearances on "The Back Porch" a popular Michiana WVPE FM 88.1 public Radio program. His family oriented presentations are ultimate listening pleasures for his audiences. Riversong Music Society honors this multi-talented gentleman for his many years of support and continuing assistance in fulfilling Riversong's "Good Works" mission.
